Remco van Mook

Remco van Mook is the founder of global Internet exchange company Asteroid and the current CTO of bare metal hosting company Novoserve. He also currently serves as the co-chair of the Connect Working Group within the RIPE community and is a member of the RIPE NCC Executive Board since 2010.

With 20+ years of experience in corporate and technology management, both as a director and a founder, his previous and current activities include:

• Founder and CTO of NDIX, the world's first cross-border Internet exchange point between the Netherlands and Germany, which evolved into metro Ethernet platform serving thousands of companies across both countries;
• Founder and executive of datacenter company Virtu, one of the fastest growing technology companies in the Netherlands in the early 2000s. Virtu was sold to Equinix in 2008;
• A variety of roles within Equinix between 2008 and 2015, including looking after the company’s global interconnection strategy, business responsibility for their Internet exchange points, expanding into new markets such as teh Middle East as well as corporate development activities;
• Founder and CEO of global Internet exchange company Asteroid, the world’s first IX-as-a-Service platform, with activities across four continents;
• Chief Development Officer and current interim CTO at bare metal hosting company Novoserve, a fast growing IaaS company with activities in Europe and North America.
  
  Apart from these activities, Remco has been an active participant of the RIPE community since 2001, an active contributor to Euro-IX between 2001 and 2014 and co-authored a few RFCs, including RFC 5452, to upgrade the security of current DNS (non-DNSSEC) implementations against Kaminsky-style attacks and the widely used RFC 2322. Within the RIPE community, he set up the Connect Working Group which replaced the old EIX WG and is the author of a significant number of community policies, including the first IPv4 transfer policy.
  
  Remco lives near Deventer, the Netherlands with his girlfriend Miriam and his two daughters Vera and Olivia.
