Re: [anti-spam-wg@localhost] spamming in the name of sience?

Hi Sabri,

My personal opinion only - other people's milage does obviously vary:
if the impact of the experiment is small, e.g. just another two percent
on top of then usual spam, then go ahead. I wouldn't noticed it, and
my customers wouldn't, either. They *do* however, appreciate efforts
in order to top spam.

I was quite surprised that someone was apparantly hit hard by your
experiment. I assume something went wrong there? My impression is
that you got some harsh flak but not really constructive suggestions
for alternatives.

I do have customers which need some education on mass emails. Having some
numbers on, e.g., complaint statistics would help me. If someone can
provide me with a pointer to such numbers, I would appreciate it.

The only numbers I see are in trade magazines. They are of the sort
of "a FOO study reveals that employees wade through spam for one hour
each and every day", with an ad for some content filter software on
the opposite page. I am completely missing numbers what happens to
originators of spam. When I have to educate customers, I miss such
numbers. I can only do hand waving and tell exactly 1 story what
happened to one of our customers who had to learn the hard way that
using a "1-million-email-addresses CD" is not a good idea.
