Training and Certification Quarterly Planning

This page details the work we'll do on developing training and certification materials for our members and community in the coming quarter, how you can give your input on that work and our reaction to that input.

We have three objectives in publishing our quarterly planning:

  1. We want to be transparent about the work we are doing
  2. We want your input on that work and our planning, and we want to document that input and let you know if and when we can add your suggestions to our planning
  3. We want an open dialogue with members and the community on developments around learning and development

We launched this initiative in Q1 2022 and are open to improving what we publish here and how we do that. So let us know if there are ways we can better present our plans.

We will update this page as our activities progress and continue to share updates on RIPE Labs, on the RIPE NCC Membership Discussion and RIPE NCC Services Working Group (WG) mailing lists, and at RIPE Meetings and other events.

Q4 2024 Plans

Last updated: 27 September 2024

Item 1: Updating and adding new e-learning animations and videos

In response to steady feedback, we are adding and updating videos throughout the RIPE NCC Academy, adding accessibility options and sharing available on multiple platforms.

Status: In progress

Item 2: User journey implementation

Based on the feedback from the community and members received during the Needs Assessment and Usability Tests conducted in 2023, we will work on improving the user journey when accessing L&D's pages, information, and services with a holistic approach.

Status: In progress

Item 3: Development of an 'Internet Measurements' e-learning course

We are developing a new e-learning course for the RIPE NCC Academy about Internet Measurements, and how RIPE Atlas and RIPEstat can be used for those measurements.

Status: In progress

Item 4: Development of an 'Advanced IPv6' e-learning course

We are developing a new IPv6 Advanced e-learning course for the RIPE NCC Academy to help learners design an IPv6 infrastructure to deploy IPv6. This course focuses on building IPv6 networks from scratch or based on existing IPv4 networks.

Status: In progress

Item 5: Review and update of certification exams

We review our exams regularly to ensure their quality and relevance. In Q4 2024, we will be looking at the RIPE Database and IPv6 Fundamentals exams.

Status: In progress

Community Input on Planning

We want the community to contribute to our plans and suggest additional work items. In 2024, through two RIPE NCC Academy home page surveys we have gathered useful feedback on the naming of our new LIR Fundamentals e-learning course, the importance of a certification on the topic, as well as the topics to focus on for our 'Internet Measurements' e-learning course.

We also added a poll to our IPv6 Fundamentals e-learning course to learn about the perceived importance of specific IPv6-related technologies that we consider covering in our future IPv6 Advanced course. From Q3 2024 onwards, we will also include questions in the 'getting started' section of each course that can help provide us with input to improve our courses.

We were also present at the SEE 12 and RIPE 88 organised events to conduct learning needs assessments which helped us select topics for our future courses, for instance, the importance of building an IPv6 advanced e-learning course and which lab activities are considered most needed for that course.

Archived Quarterly Plans

You can find our plans from the previous quarters on this page. The Q4 2024 plans will be archived once we publish the Q1 2025 planning.
