Useful Information

Emergency Numbers

Moldova uses the universal European emergency number 112 for Police, Fire and Ambulance. An operator will redirect your call to the appropriate service.

For specific cases, you may also use the following numbers:

Police: 902

Fire: 901

Emergency Medical Help: 903

Tourist Police: +373 22 255 646

The country code for Moldova is +373.

Currency

Moldova’s official currency is the Moldovan Leu (MDL).

ATM

ATMs are widely available across Chișinău, especially in the city centre, shopping malls and major hotels. Most ATMs accept international cards from Visa, Mastercard and Maestro. Cash withdrawals are in Moldovan Leu (MDL), and many ATMs offer multilingual options. While credit and debit cards are accepted at most restaurants, hotels and larger shops, smaller businesses, markets, and some taxis may only take cash. It’s advisable to carry some cash for convenience especially when visiting local markets or rural areas.

Language and Alphabet

The official language of Moldova is Romanian, using the Latin alphabet. Russian is also widely spoken, especially in Chișinău.

Electricity

Moldova’s electricity supply operates at 230 volts, 50 Hz, using Type C (Europlug) and Type F (Schuko) plugs. These are common across Europe, so travellers from many countries can use their devices without a converter, provided they are rated for 230V.

Time Zone

Moldova follows Eastern European Summer Time (EEST/UTC+3) in April.

Weather

June in Chișinău brings mild temperatures, but conditions can be variable. It’s recommended to dress in layers and bring a light jacket for cooler days or occasional rain. The weather is generally suitable for outdoor activities.
