Health, Safety and Security
Security and Safety
Chișinău is generally a safe city for travellers, though petty crimes like pickpocketing can occur, especially in crowded areas such as tourist hotspots, markets and public transport.
General Safety Tips:
- Be aware of your surroundings: Stay vigilant in busy areas and always keep an eye on your belongings.
- Use reliable transportation: Opt for official taxis or ride-hailing apps like Yandex Go and iTaxi to avoid unlicensed services.
- Be cautious at night: Stick to well-lit, central areas and avoid walking alone in isolated streets. If you’re out late, arrange safe transportation back to your accommodation.
- Respect local customs and laws: Dress modestly when visiting religious sites and familiarise yourself with local regulations. Avoid discussing politically sensitive topics.
- Stay informed: Keep updated on local events and safety conditions by monitoring news and travel advisories.
- Secure your accommodation: Choose hotels with good security measures and use safes to store valuables.
- Prepare beforehand: Have emergency contacts saved, including your country's embassy or consulate, and keep copies of important documents like your passport and travel insurance.
