Assisted Registry Check
What is the Assisted Registry Check?
The Assisted Registry Check (ARC) is the new name for the RIPE NCC's "audit" and "additional allocation audit" activities that have been improved using feedback from both the RIPE community and the RIPE NCC membership. This improvement aims to make the process more efficient and less time consuming for LIRs.
During the ARC review, the RIPE NCC performs a variety of consistency checks to assess the quality of LIRs' registry data. We then provide personalised support to help correct any issues that are found, thereby helping our members to strengthen the quality of their registry data.
Why the Assisted Registry Check?
In addition to regular audits, the RIPE NCC also checks LIRs' registry data when they request additional resources.
The ARC review provides a way for the RIPE NCC to stay in periodic contact with our members and ensure that the accuracy of data in the RIPE Registry is maintained, without placing any additional burden on the LIR.
The ARC review aims to do the following:
- Help our members to keep their data up-to-date
- Identify inconsistencies between Routing Registry entries and BGP announcements
- Assist with locating and fixing lame reverse DNS delegations
- Provide a more efficient, less time-consuming experience for the member
About the Assisted Registry Check
Feedback from the membership has indicated that the RIPE NCC's previous audit activities were time-consuming and disruptive to daily operations. The ARC review has been designed with this feedback in mind and requires less time and less effort on the part of the LIR. It makes the process more efficient and delivers more value to members.
As part of the ARC review, LIRs receive personalised support from the RIPE NCC's Registration Services staff. This may include help creating RIPE Database objects to improve contact data, removing inconsistent resource records and clarification of RIPE Policies.
The ARC review covers three broad subject areas:
The RIPE NCC is keen to engage with LIRs to ensure that the ARC is a constructive process that adds value for both the LIR and the wider Internet Registry system.
