How your Billing Score is calculated
To determine a billing category, a score is calculated based on Aggregatable Internet number resources made to a member over time.
The score of an allocation is calculated by multiplying the scoring unit for that resource (for example: scoring unit 4 for an IPv4 /19) by the age of the resource (based on a time function: year of the allocation minus the year 1992). The total score (i.e. billing score) is the sum of allocation scores.
The table with the scoring units is in the RIPE NCC Charging Scheme 2011.

The table above shows how scoring units are determined based on resource usage. To establish scoring units based on larger or smaller resource usage, the same ratio applies.

In simplified terms:
- Score = Scoring unit an allocation is worth
- Time score = Time function of an allocation (year of allocation - 1992)
- Score X Time score = Allocation score
The total score per Member is the sum of all allocation scores.
An Example
Based on the billing score boundaries represented in the table below, this LIR is classified in the SMALL billing category for the year 2011.

This table represents an example LIR.
This LIR received a /32 allocation of IPv6 address space in 2003. As per the Charging Scheme 2011 all first allocations of IPv6 address space allocated to a member will score 0 points. Additionally, the LIR received a /32 allocation of IPv6 address space in 2004. A /32 represents a single scoring unit. The time score of this allocation (2004 - 1992) is 12. The final score for this IPv6 allocation is 12.
The LIR was allocated a /19 of IPv4 address space in 2005. A /19 represents 4 scoring units. The time score of this allocation (2005 - 1992) is 13. Multiply the number of scoring units and the time score of this IPv4 allocation to produce a score of 52.
This LIR's total score is calculated by adding all these scores, which produces a total of 64.
In addition, this LIR was allocated one AS Number Assignment and IPv4 PI resource in 2004. AS Number Assignments and PI are independent internet number resources and charged € 50,- each annually.
