RIPE NCC and ITU Sign a Joint Declaration to Promote IPv6
On 7 March 2025, the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) signed a Joint Declaration with the RIPE NCC on ‘Promoting and Developing Internet Infrastructure, IPv6 Deployment and Capacity Building’. The ceremony took place at the Regional Development Forum for the Arab States in Amman, Jordan on 3 February 2025.
Internet Protocol (IP) addresses are fundamental resources for the digital economy. The deployment of IPv6 in all countries is needed to meet the growing demands for world connectivity, but there are a number of developing countries that still require expert technical assistance to make this deployment effective.
Through the joint declaration, BDT and RIPE NCC will work together on the following:
- Capacity-building initiatives, including training programmes on IPv6 deployment and secure Internet operations.
- Joint advocacy for a sustainable and inclusive internet ecosystem aligned with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.
- Promoting internet resilience and connectivity in underserved regions, particularly in the least developed countries.
This Joint Declaration is a key milestone in the RIPE NCC’s broader strategy to strengthen collaboration with international and regional partners. It is also a testament to RIPE NCC’s pivotal role and long-standing achievements in technical cooperation, supporting the development of Internet infrastructure across Europe, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
By working together, the RIPE NCC and ITU will leverage their technical expertise and global reach to accelerate IPv6 deployment, enhance digital capacity, and foster a more resilient and inclusive Internet for all.
