RIPE NCC and APNIC Formalise Closer Working Relationship
The RIPE NCC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with APNIC, its counterpart for the Asia-Pacific region. The agreement formalises the already close working relationship between the two organisations which has seen them sharing resources in a number of key areas.
The five RIRs that work to support the operation of the Internet globally already coordinate their efforts through the Number Resource Organization (NRO), which allows the RIRs to act collectively on matters of interest. However, the NRO is typically for higher level issues. The agreement between RIPE NCC and APNIC specifies more day-to-day operational coordination and is in addition to their ongoing participation in the NRO.
The scope of the MoU covers a number of key areas:
- Certification of Internet Number Resources (RPKI)
- Research and Development
- Training
- K-root server deployment
- Database future architecture
- Membership surveys
- Human Resources issues
- Legal issues
- Business Area practices
- Joint Regional Meetings
