Dave Wilson Takes Seat on NRO Number Council
4 October 2006 - Dave Wilson of HEAnet has been nominated from the RIPE NCC service region to take the vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The election came ahead of the end of a term served by Sabine Jaume, who was elected in January 2004.
Voting took place today during the Plenary session of the RIPE 53 Meeting in Amsterdam. Of 126 people who voted during the election, 73 put their support behind Dave Wilson.
As the representative appointed by the Internet community for the NRO NC seat, Dave will serve a three-year term from 1 January 2007.
About the NRO Number Council
The NRO Number Council was established in October 2004 under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It is made up of three individuals from each of the five Regional Internet Registry (RIR) service regions. Of these three seats, one is filled by each RIR's Executive Council (EC). This individual acts as a representative for the RIR, reporting regularly to their EC. For the RIPE NCC, Wilfried Woeber currently holds this position.
An election takes place to fill the two remaining positions. Each RIR calls for candidates for the seats. These two members of the NRO NC act as individuals and do not represent an RIR or act as representatives of any organisation.
About the RIPE NCC
The RIPE Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) is an independent, not-for-profit membership organisation that provides services to members in the RIPE NCC service region. The membership consists mainly of Internet Service Providers (ISPs), telecommunication organisations and large corporations.
The RIPE NCC also provides services for the benefit of the Internet community at large including the development and maintenance of the RIPE Database, administrative support for the RIPE community and the development and coordination of member-supporting projects.
