ASO proposal
The three current Regional Internet Address Registries: APNIC, ARIN and RIPE NCC are working hard to prepare a proposal for the recognition of the Address Supporting Organisation (ASO) mentioned in the ICANN bylaws. Your input and/or comments are welcome.
The following letter has been sent by these three registries to ICANN on the 5th of February 1999.
Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)
Ms Esther Dyson
Interim Chair of the Initial Board
339 La Cuesta Drive
Portola Valley, CA 94028
USA
Dear Ms Dyson,
I am writing to you on behalf of the boards of the three current
Regional Internet Address Registries: APNIC, ARIN and RIPE NCC.
These three organisations are currently preparing a request for the
recognition of the Address Supporting Organisation (ASO) mentioned in
the ICANN bylaws. We expect to submit this request to ICANN in time for
your Berlin board meeting.
In order to meet the requirement in your announcement of a demonstration
of widespread support our proposal will need to be reviewed by the
membership of the existing registries, the groups currently preparing
the establishment of new Regional Internet Registries as well as the
Internet community at large.
We are currently planning to publish a proposed structure in early March
after discussions at APRICOT. We expect that our memberships and the
community at large will support such a proposal.
Should you have any questions regarding this, or should you like to
raise any issues about this with us, please do not hesitate to contact
us.
Kind Regards
Toru Takahashi
