Default behavior of whois

Monday we decided that the "normal" behavior of the IRR will be for any site to return data from multiple dbs (in some order of trust declared by the local site). Given that this is to be so, can we change the default behavior of whoisd to support this? Particularly, when called with a standard Unix whois client, can we have whois return all of the production (not test) database answers for that query? (Like "-a"). (This is particularly inportant for the startup of the RADB, since most of our initial data will be from non-primary databases RIPE.db, CANET.db, MCI.db, and PRDB.db rather than from our primary database RADB.db). If there aren't any violent objections to this, Merit can make this change in our own code, and have it follow in the official distribution. --Dale ---------- (PS: Other nice options to support: "Give me just one answer, the first one you encounter". And "Give me one answer, but compare the responses from all the databases you have. Where the fields are identical, just give them. Where they differ, mark the variances".) -------- Logged at Thu Dec 8 02:53:37 MET 1994 ---------
