Dear colleagues, I try to regularly update the community on EU regulatory developments with the potential to impact either the RIPE NCC’s operations, the RIPE NCC membership or the RIPE community. In the past, I’ve generally shared these updates with the RIPE Cooperation Working Group list; however, there is currently an open consultation taking place that others may be interested in contributing to, around the “fair share” debate and the future of digital infrastructure in the EU. The deadline to contribute to that consultation is 19 May, and I encourage everyone who has an opinion on the topic to make sure their voice is heard. This could have a huge impact on the technical community within Europe, and it’s our understanding that the European Commission is quite keen to push some sort of regulatory proposal on this before the end of the year. You can learn more about this and other regulatory developments - and get the link to the consultation - in the latest update on RIPE Labs: https://labs.ripe.net/author/suzanne_taylor_muzzin/cyber-resilience-fair-share-and-sanctions-our-regulation-update-april-2023/ Cyber Resilience, "Fair Share", and Sanctions - Our Regulation Update April 2023 labs.ripe.net In addition, the RIPE NCC recently sent a letter to the MEPs responsible for the Cyber Resilience Act, in which we restated our concerns and those we heard from the community about the potential impact of this proposal on the open-source community within Europe. We hope this will have some influence as the European Parliament defines its position on the act before beginning negotiations with the Council and Commission. If you’re interested, you can find the letter (along with all our previous contributions to various consultations) on our website: https://www.ripe.net/participate/internet-governance/multi-stakeholder-engagement/ripe-ncc-contributions-to-external-consultations RIPE NCC Contributions to External Consultations ripe.net If you find these kinds of topics interesting, please let us know and we’ll make sure to keep you informed going forward. (And if not, you can let us know that, too!)
