I'm sorry to say that I have to step aside as Chair of the
RIPE anti-spam Working Group. The reasons are personal; I
can no longer make available the resources to do the job
properly.
So, what happens next?
We have to find a new chair, and volunteers are welcome.
Anyone who is thinking of offering to take the job must
understand that:
+ There is work to do, some easy and some difficult;
+ You should be willing to attend most RIPE meetings both in
Amsterdam and elsewhere, at your own expense (or you may
have a sympathetic employer or sponsor who will pay for it);
+ The RIPE Working Group Chairs have a few shared duties
including agreeing the schedule for each RIPE meeting,
finding speakers for the Plenary at each meeting and taking
proposals through the Policy Development Process.
+ You have the support of RIPE NCC staff and facilities.
The Working Group has a charter which lists the formal set
of tasks for the group. We have not followed it exactly and
it can be updated.
In practice the Working Group needs to work out what it wants
to do next, and to choose a chair who is willing to lead it
so that the tasks are achieved. I included two separate items
in the draft agenda where we can discuss those things, but I
think we have to take them together. I will present some
ideas about what the group might do, but the decision is not
mine.
I suggest that anyone who is interested should tell the list
as soon as possible. It would obviously be convenient if we
can get this sorted out this week in Tallinn, but it may take
a little longer.
If you want to talk to me first, you are welcome.
