Greylisting surely delays email and blocks the sender queue, that why we dont like it. We prefer another method, by directing the lowest MX to a dead and not working IP. Any normal mailserver sends mail to this dead IP first, does not get a connect and selects the secondary MX (what is really the working primary MX) in seconds without having to queue it. This keeps the queue small for all good senders, has nearly no delay and still blocks out most spambots (except those that are using the 2nd or 3rd MX all the time).
