Laurent,

I don't see how we make the transition without breaking earlier
versions.  After the code is more widely deployed, we can change the
extended-as-out lines to as-out (and remove the corresponding old
as-out).  I don't think there is yet widespread use of any of these
features other than ANS plans to use extended-as-out.

Do you have any suggestions?
