/etc/passwd/ASXX entries

I don't think much wil break if you lowercase the accounts.
Some scripts will need hacking but nothing not really obvious.

I'd just get the local mail delivery fixed if you do not need
to distinguis case in mailbox names . If you are running sendmail
it is a mailer flag. Nothing to do with /bin/mail per se.
