< apologies for ranting > i definitely can not speak for peter. but it feels as if i spend an average of three hours a day on multi-continent zoom or jitsi 'calls' with folk doing live presentations, not counting conferences. yes, there are gl!tches, as much from human causes as from technology. if i am really really lucky, i sometimes get to see a two year old! but aren't we all used to it? and i am a bit tired of "next slide please" at conferences hosted by folk hoping we can make everything appear perfect in these quite un- perfect times. i normally would not weigh in on this one; but i am quite unfond of pre-recorded talks. if it is really good, i'll catch it next month on youtube or whatever. i want as close to live talks with open mics as i can get. i want live interaction with other funny monkeys, as i can not be with them in person. otoh, if someone is uncomfortable presenting live and prefers to pre- record, i bow to their personal preference. this is all hard enough on folk already. i suspect peter's point was that, if the internet does not work well for this, well aren't we the ones who are responsible for fixing it? randy --- randy at psg.com `gpg --locate-external-keys --auto-key-locate wkd randy at psg.com` signatures are back, thanks to dmarc header butchery
