I agree with this. I'm not much of a proficient user of the website. 
When I tried to use the database search yesterday (before reading this 
email thread today), I was very confused why there weren't any results 
for a role object, that I was sure had to exist.

If you disagree and want to keep the website search on top, then you 
could put a link on the no results page. Perhaps one saying something 
like "Did you mean to query the database", which ideally prefills your 
query-text in the DB search if clicked.

This would make the transition easier for people like me who blindly 
assume the search in the same general UI region still does the same, I 
think.
