OpenIPmap is first of all a research project on the topic of the infrastructure IP geolocation, and doesn't claim to be anything more than that.

We are trying to tackle, together with Universities and researchers in general, the geolocation problem with novel research and a data platform open to everybody.

We don't only attempt automatic geolocation, but we allow the user to directly crowdsource and correct the information (yours is not correct).

On the technical side:
- We will soon consider the geoloc attribute in our geolocation, it's already in our pipeline. It has never been a priority because it is rarely used, it involves only a tiny part of the global address space, it is often not accurate and not up to date. But I understand that this is disrespectful of the efforts of who is instead providing the geoloc field. I take the blame for this and promise you we will act on this.
- We will add the reverse DNS engine, that in your case would have helped.
- Your wrongly geolocated IP was due to an anchor in Stuttgart that is able to reach you with very low RTT, faster than any other source. We will investigate if and how to treat anchors in a different way compared to probes.


Anyway, I can understand your frustration when I look your IP on the various geolocation datasets available online... but hey, at least we got the right country! :-)

Thanks for your excellent work here ... I tried this with on IP from me
where I have an inetnum object for a /32 with an exact geoloc position
for Frankfurt (185.54.144.33) - But openipmap does locate this to Stuttgart
instead to Frankfurt for whatever reason ...
Maybe it would make sense to have a look at your own geoloc attribute in Ripe
or rank it higher than the often random-generated from strange geo-ip databases?

Alternative - if you do not support this attribute yourself, you should maybe
better think on deleting it from ripe?

my personal view on this:
This global geolocation topic is starting to make much more troubles and causing support
as it does solve ... so all initiatives should be focused to make things better
and not just add another plattform which creates a few new problems which
we would not have if the pattform would not exist ?
(doesn't mean that this is true for your initiative - this is just my general view on this...)
