This is a limitation in one of the underlying libraries (leaflet.js)
that is used for drawing, not doing this by default.

I remember experimenting with solutions in that thread, and not
getting it to work (as it annoys me too).

Google Maps doesn't have this limitation, but isn't as open-source as
leaflet.js is.

So, yes technically feasible, just not implemented atm.
