Where it's Amsterdam, I'm wholly in agreement. The marginal cost of additional staff is minimal. However, we've had complaints (just vague coffee-break things, nothing formal) about too many RIPE NCC staff at RIPE meetings. As Gert knows, trying to satisfy everyone isn't possible and we try to balance the "keep the staff to a minimum" and "let's have lots of staff there" points of view. If we get the feeling that people want more staff at the meetings then we can ask the NCC to send more staff. It's your organisation, after all. I do also consider it one of the major benefits of a RIPE meeting to meet RIPE NCC staff in person, and to actually know who I'm talking to, next time I'm in a mail exchange with hostmaster at ripe.net... Also it helps the NCC staff to get a feeling for "real life" to be able to talk to people over coffee. Gert Doering -- RIPE member since many years -- have you enabled IPv6 on something today...?
