Dear colleagues, To consolidate the information we send to members and reduce the number of individual mails you receive from us, the RIPE NCC Member Update will be published from now on in a monthly email format. The update will focus on timely and operationally useful information. If you have feedback about the contents of this mail or the new format of the Member Update, please reply and let me know. If there is information about particular services or activities you would like to see included, we can add it to future issues. RIPE NCC Member Update: May 2016 Number of LIRs: 13,553 LIRs with IPv6: 10,279 IPv4 addresses transferred in April: 259,584 https://labs.ripe.net/statistics RESOURCE REGISTRATION The RIPE NCC Executive Board has asked the RIPE NCC to broaden the definition of policy transfers by including network acquisitions in the scope of the transfer policy. All network acquisitions now fall under the RIPE transfer policy unless they are part of an organisation merger, organisation acquisition, bankruptcy or liquidation. The Board has also instructed the RIPE NCC to strengthen its due diligence procedures to clarify that transfer agreements are signed by a party that is officially authorised to do so according to national authority registration. The RIPE NCC is proactively checking that all signatures meet the criteria. Further details are available in the original mail from the Chairman of the Executive Board: https://www.ripe.net/ripe/mail/archives/ncc-announce/2016-April/001031.html RIPE DATABASE We have been working to improve the usability of the RIPE Database over the last year and the latest change will address an area that has caused much confusion for members in the past. Our Product Manager Alex Band explains how we are improving the management of RIPE Database objects that have joint responsibility: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/AlexBand/improving-the-management-of-ripe-database-objects-with-joint-responsibility We've also worked on improving "Syncupdates", which allows users to create or update multiple objects in a single text area and get an immediate response from the RIPE Database server on the result. There is a beta version of the new Syncupdates available, and you can find out all about it at: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/AlexBand/improving-syncupdates-in-the-ripe-database TRAINING SERVICES Is there a RIPE NCC Training Course coming to your country? In June, courses will be held in Estonia, Russia, Austria, Malta and Iceland. There will also be online training for new LIRs and an advanced RIPE Atlas webinar. Register to secure your place at: https://lirportal.ripe.net/training/ And in June, we will add the online LIR Training Course to the suite of certified training courses available through the RIPE NCC Academy: https://academy.ripe.net/ RIPE NCC GENERAL MEETING (GM) Are you registered for the GM yet? The meeting takes place this week from 25-27 May in Copenhagen with full remote participation options for all members. There are four resolutions to be voted on and an election to fill two seats on the RIPE NCC Executive Board. Currently, there are over 900 members across the service region registered to vote, and we hope to see this number increase before the meeting takes place. All information on the GM, including how to register, is available at: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/gm/meetings/may-2016 RIPE ATLAS We’ve updated the RIPE Atlas APIs and created a comprehensive user manual that explains everything you need to know about how to use them: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/suzanne_taylor_muzzin/new-ripe-atlas-apis The latest RIPE Atlas updates include making the DNSMON code available on GitHub for personal use, displaying IPv4 vs IPv6 comparisons in LatencyMON, new credit sharing options, and new limits on probes per measurement and results per day: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/suzanne_taylor_muzzin/ripe-altas-update-dnsmon-on-github-latencymon-comparisons-new-credit-sharing-and-more MEETINGS The RIPE 72 Meeting takes place in Copenhagen, Denmark this week from Monday to Friday. You can check out the full meeting plan at: https://ripe72.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/ Can’t make it to Copenhagen? You can view all the sessions and join the discussion no matter where you are: https://ripe72.ripe.net/live/main/ The SEE 5 Meeting took place in Tirana, Albania in April. Videos of all sessions are now available on the South East Europe Regional Meetings YouTube channel: http://bit.ly/1GOnWIU ENOG 11 takes place in Moscow from 7-8 June: https://www.enog.org/meetings/enog-11/ RECENT ON RIPE LABS Rene Wilhelm published an article on RIPE Labs last week giving details on RIPE NCC membership growth and available IPv4 statistics: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/wilhelm/ripe-ncc-membership-and-available-ipv4-statistics-an-update There are also two articles by Romain Fontugne and Stéphane Bortzmeyer about detecting and debugging network problems using RIPE Atlas. All the RIPE Atlas-related articles are available at: https://labs.ripe.net/atlas INTERNET GOVERNANCE The RIPE NCC will be contributing to the 2016 European Dialogue on Internet Governance (EuroDIG), which is being held in Brussels from 9-10 June: http://www.eurodig.org/eurodig-2016/ The RIPE NCC will also participate at the ICANN 56 Meeting in Helsinki from 27-30 June: https://meetings.icann.org/en/helsinki56 RIPE NCC SURVEY 2016 Every three years, we conduct a large-scale anonymous survey of our members and other stakeholders to see how we can improve our services. The 2016 survey launches on 27 May and will run until the end of June. We've made this year's survey much shorter than in previous years and the questions are more focused on practical improvements. We'll also be giving away five iPads during the course of the survey, so watch out for the announcement this week. REMEMBER: The earlier you take part, the better your chance of winning a prize! MAILING LIST MANAGEMENT We use tags so you can filter RIPE NCC emails in your own mail client depending on the topics you’re interested in: [meetings], [news], [GM], [service] and [training].
