RIPE NCC Member Update: June 2016 Contents: - Creating Additional LIR Accounts - Registration Services - RIPE Database - LIR Portal - RIPE Forum - RIPE NCC Survey 2016 - Training Services - Update from the Dubai Office - ENOG 11 - RIPE Atlas - Internet Governance - IETF Endowment Fund - General Meeting May 2016 - Social Media Number of LIRs: 13,672 LIRs with IPv6: 10,385 IPv4 addresses transferred in May: 592,640 https://labs.ripe.net/statistics CREATING ADDITIONAL LIR ACCOUNTS At the RIPE NCC General Meeting (GM) from 25-27 May, members approved a resolution that allows the opening of additional LIR accounts per member. Members had always been able to open additional LIR accounts until the RIPE NCC Executive Board suspended this ability in November 2015. The resolution approved by members at the GM reinstates the ability to open additional accounts. Now the RIPE NCC is working on improved procedures to accept new applications for additional LIR accounts and will inform the membership when these are in place. REGISTRATION SERVICES At the RIPE 72 Meeting, Andrea Cima presented Feedback from RIPE NCC Registration Services, and it was one of the highest-rated presentations at the meeting. In this presentation, Andrea lets you know what feedback we have received from members about the policies that have been implemented by the RIPE NCC. You can see the video of the presentation at: https://ripe72.ripe.net/archives/video/155/ Rene Wilhelm also published an article on RIPE Labs about developments we have seen with IPv4 transfers over the past year: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/wilhelm/developments-in-ipv4-transfers RIPE DATABASE Many usability improvements in the RIPE Database web interface have been rolled out in the last few months. The latest addition helps users choose a compatible status when creating inet(6)num objects: https://twitter.com/alexander_band/status/738644198493020161 LIR PORTAL RIPE Database objects that have a joint responsibility, such as allocations for IP resources and the organisation object, can now be updated using any update method you like, e.g. webupdates, syncupdates or email updates. The LIR Portal Object Editors are no longer needed and have been deprecated. To get started, choose your LIR's preferred default maintainer on the LIR Portal account details page: https://www.ripe.net/manage-ips-and-asns/db/support/security/maintainers#default-mnt RIPE FORUM We introduced a new web-based interface to encourage participation in RIPE community discussions such as Address Policy, Anti-Abuse or IPv6. Subscription, reading and posting are handled on your browser without the need to get more emails in your inbox. Why not try it out? https://www.ripe.net/participate/mail/forum/ RIPE NCC SURVEY 2016 The RIPE NCC Survey 2016 has been running for three weeks and we've already seen over 2,000 people participate. This will give us excellent insight into what our members and the community want to see from the RIPE NCC in the years to come. Three people have also won an iPad Air 2 - Piet Honkoop - Roman Sokolov - Jorge García de la Nava We still have two more prizes to give away. So take part in the survey to help the RIPE NCC improve - you might receive a nice prize for taking 10 minutes to help us out. https://www.ripe.net/survey2016 TRAINING SERVICES Is there a RIPE NCC Training Course coming to your country? In July there will be courses in Iceland, Russia, Bulgaria and the Netherlands. There are still places available at all these courses. https://lirportal.ripe.net/training/courses UPDATE FROM THE DUBAI OFFICE It's been two years since we opened the RIPE NCC Dubai office, and our staff have done much to engage with our members and community in the region. Hisham Ibrahim gives a good overview of the Dubai office's second year of operations: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/hisham_ibrahim/update-on-activities-in-the-menog-region/ ENOG 11 The ENOG 11/RIPE NCC Regional Meeting took place in Moscow from 7-8 June. You can see the full presentation archive at: https://www.enog.org/meetings/enog-11/presentations/ RIPE ATLAS The third RIPE Atlas Hackathon took place on the weekend before the RIPE 72 Meeting. This RIPE Labs article contains a review of the event, links to all the code produced and a preview of the next hackathon: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/becha/ripe-atlas-interface-hackathon-results The RIPE NCC's Philip Homburg published a RIPE Labs article that provides a visual impression of the lifetime of RIPE Atlas probes. He finds out that probes not connecting at all is a much larger problem than probes failing over time due to hardware issue: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/philip_homburg/a-visual-impression-of-probe-lifetimes INTERNET GOVERNANCE Last week saw a milestone in the IANA stewardship transition process as the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) issued its assessment report. After thorough review, the NTIA reports that it finds that "the IANA Stewardship Transition Proposal meets the criteria necessary to complete the long-promised privatization of the IANA functions." https://www.ripe.net/publications/news/announcements/ntia-issues-iana-stewardship-transition-proposal-report The RIPE NCC will also participate at the ICANN 56 Meeting in Helsinki from 27-30 June: https://meetings.icann.org/en/helsinki56 IPv6 DEPLOYMENT The RIPE NCC is awarding five-star IPv6 RIPEness to LIRs that are deploying IPv6 at the edge. Our five-star IPv6 RIPEness page lists LIRs per country who have met the criteria for achieving this status: http://ipv6ripeness.ripe.net/5star/ If you are listed as a five-star LIR, you can email <ncc at ripe.net> to claim a five-star IPv6 RIPEness t-shirt! We also provide information for various audiences that can help with IPv6 deployment. Check out the IPv6 Info Centre: https://www.ripe.net/publications/ipv6-info-centre IETF ENDOWMENT FUND Following the RIPE NCC Services Working Group session and the General Meeting, the RIPE NCC Executive Board asked for feedback on the proposal for the RIPE NCC to contribute to the IETF Endowment Fund. The Board will discuss the feedback received from members at its upcoming meeting in July. You can see the discussion that took place in the members-discuss archives: https://www.ripe.net/ripe/mail/archives/members-discuss/ GENERAL MEETING MAY 2016 At the RIPE NCC General Meeting in May, the membership elected Nigel Titley and Remco van Mook to the two available seats on the RIPE NCC Executive Board. Members also approved the RIPE NCC Charging Scheme 2017, which keeps the membership fee at the current level of EUR 1,400. All information on the GM is available at: https://www.ripe.net/participate/meetings/gm/meetings/may-2016/general-meeting-may-2016 SOCIAL MEDIA Why not follow us on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn? https://www.ripe.net/support/contact/social-networking If you have feedback about the contents of this mail, please reply and let me know.
