Hi Christoph, I'm totally with you. I believe due to the freedom of speech it might be very problematic how to moderate the ML properly. At the end of the day probably 99,9% of all emails will have to be approved which in the end it not serving anyone who is annoyed by the amount of stupid and unnecessary discussions. Maybe people, who are being insulted or feel insulted, have the option to complain and sanctions can be applied to single misbehaving persons and not the complete mailinglist? Or as said just ignore however as we are all humans we might get triggered very quickly. Juli 2020 11:59 An: members-discuss at ripe.net Cc: exec-board at ripe.net Betreff: Re: [members-discuss] Request to put Members-discuss in moderation Hello, the problem from my point of view is: Some of us – probably more than just a few of us, to be honest – have actual work to do. Looking at e-mails is something which takes time, and I like to see a certain value coming from time that I invest. Meaning that, while simply ignoring comments coming from the lunatic fringe is something which can and definitely should be done, it still costs some time to look at a list once new e-mails have arrived to see what they are about. So the only practical solution is either for members to individually make up their own minds and decide to filter all e-mails with certain sender names/addresses themselves, automatically dropping those in their individual looney folders (aka /dev/null), or have RIPE do something about specific sender(s) which ends up having similar results. (In this specific individual case, I probably don't mind too much which option is taken – I'll leave that decision to the people in charge at RIPE. Generally I guess one should be more careful – free speech is a valuable thing: At the very least, it gives everybody a chance to assess the quality of individual contributors.) Putting a whole list into moderation as a reaction to misbehaviour of a single individual, on the other hand, is not a good option at all, I think. Doing so would just show how simple it is to sabotage RIPE and regular discussion among its members. We should not let this happen, or others will learn from the example.
