AFAIK skype is not open protocol and it is not implemented on every
possible platform. If you wish you can make your fridge using SMTP, but
not Skype. And also (same as Jabber) it is instant messenger, not an
replacement for e-mail.

How you imagine sending documents, or any kind of real work via Jabber?
It's plain ridiculous.

And internal stuff is just internal. There needs to be some kind of
bridge between those internal stuff thingies.

OK. I can agree with that, but claiming that SMTP will die soon is not
based on aything. If I told any of me customer to use Jabber instead of
SMTP, they would just change ISP (if was that customer I would do the same).

If any of my suppliers or buissness partners asked me to contact them
not by e-mail but by Jabber I just would ask them to be serious.

I DO use Jabber for my personal and internal company contacts, but that
is all.
