One important role of the anchors is to be relatively fixed reference points for the smaller probes. Each probe runs so called “Anchoring Measurements” to a number of anchors. As long as the anchor remains stable any variations in the results of the anchoring measurements can be atttributed to the probe. In particular an effect observed across all anchoring measurements is probably close to the probe. I offer to give a 20 minute presentation "Observations about RIPE Atlas Anchoring Measurements". Daniel
