Please find some interesting research by Andra Lutu, Marcelo Bagnulo and 
Olaf Maennel on RIPE Labs: "The BGP Visibility Scanner"

The authors developed a tool that checks if prefixes have limited 
visibility. The article describes some of the results found after 
analysing many months of global routing table data.
