I personally think this would be a good idea.

FWIW, I would keep the scope of this document, and span other efforts if 
necessary (divide and conquer).

IMO, probably not.

I'd probably update the current work and, if necessary, then span other 
efforts. -- the current docs are dated, and it's probably better to 
focus on bringing them up to date in a timely manner, than to open the 
door to all sorts of stuff which might take way more time to finish.
