Hooking up CPEs to an ethernet-like link without actually running a routing
protocol has its own set of issues. PPPoE framing is also simple enough that
it should not cost a lot of CPU time.

Fascinating. 

There are people who insist that every CPE has to come with an IPv6 firewall
that has to be enabled by default.

And then, connecting a Windows system directly to an internet connection
because it is believed to be more secure than a CPE. Worlds apart.

But yes, for those markets, assigning a /64 seems to be required.
