Dear colleagues, As a candidate in the upcoming IoT working group co-chair election, I would like to introduce myself to the subscribers of this mailing list. After gaining some experience with the challenges of deploying and maintaining connected devices from a variety of vendors at a previous employer's logistics warehouses, I kept an interest in all sorts of IoT appliances and the risks they pose to both the privacy and security of their users. My current day to day job at an open source software company has given me a lot of insight in how a majority of hardware vendors treat their products firmware upgrade path after its initial release and how collected user data is used and sold to brokers on a growing global market. Not having missed a meeting since getting involved in the RIPE community in 2020, I decided to step up and volunteer for the position of working group co-chair. I believe that my technical know how and implicit distrust in commercially available products can be of service to this community when applied in a position of IoT working group co-chair. If elected, I promise to try my best to advocate for stringent regulations to be put on manufacturers and importers of this class of products to uphold device security, personal data protection and rights to privacy of end users inside of networks in the RIPE region. Please consider giving me your vote in tomorrow's election. If you have any questions you would like me to answer do not hesitate to contact me on this mailing list or to talk to me in person in the hallways of the meeting venue.
