The potential role of IoT devices in DDoS attacks like Mirai is something we have been looking at for some time. We envision more functionality in CPEs to better deal with the risks of compromised IoT devices in the homenet. This is part of our SPIN-project (Security and Privacy for In-home Networks) [1]. So yes, definitely interested.
