Right .. totally closed carrier only. Its all about SS7 avoidance/destruction. The use of carrier (private) ENUM data queries interconnection for voice and other realtime communications is coming but there are some technical issues and CAPEX problems among the carriers that are inhibiting deployment. It's a substutiion play for Global Title Translation in part. SS7 cannot handle new IP services .. DUH! The GSM association has been looking into this for some time as the signaling infrastructure for the IPX and now there are several international landline operators that are looking at private ENUM architectures as well lead by FT/Orange. Of course there are lots of private companies deploying this as well like Xconnect in the UK. The problem has been getting some of the suppliers to properly support 3761, though that is very very quickly changing. IMHO this is going to get even bigger as the EC is looking to mandate full database Number Portability across Europe during the next term of the Commission. Vivian Reading has sent out huge noises on this recently. ENUM technology is perfect for this in carrier networks. I've heard rumors that even in Japan there is increasing interest in this. Onward Routing for LNP in Japan is driving NTT crazy as their all IP infrastructure is progressing and the Japanese LNP solution for mobile is not that great either. http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=MEMO/09/219 > -----Original Message----- > From: enum-wg-admin at ripe.net [mailto:enum-wg-admin at ripe.net] On Behalf > Of Torsten Schlabach > Sent: Thursday, July 09, 2009 8:32 AM > To: Richard Shockey > Cc: 'Yoshiro YONEYA'; enum-wg at ripe.net > Subject: Re: [enum-wg] ENUM for SMS? > > Hi! > > > Yes .. but I don't have any pointers these are all private services. > > You mean, these are private ENUM trees, not the golden tree being > queried? > > Regards, > Torsten > > Richard Shockey schrieb: > > Yes .. but I don't have any pointers these are all private services. > > > > ENUM is now being used extensively in North America for both SMS and > more > > specifically for MMS routing.
