InterNIC shutdown and TLDs/IN-ADDR ...

The following banner can be found at the InterNIC FTP site:

220-    Please be advised that on March 31, 1998 InterNIC will be shutting
220-    down permanently and will no longer be in service.The databases that
220-    you own will need to be either moved to another location or put out
220-    of service.

220-    We apologize for this event but it will be the end of the InterNIC
220-    Cooperative Agreement that was funded by the National Science
220-    Foundation and AT&T.

I knew the fact that NSI lost its contract with the NSF from earlier. Any
comments on impacts of this shutdown on the root servers, in-addr.arpa
zone, nTLDs and gTLDs?
