DRAFT RIPE Diversity Task Force Minutes - Thursday, 21 December 2017 Attendees: Denesh Bhabuta (UKNOF/DNS-OARC), Shane Kerr (Oracle / Dyn), Brian Nisbet (HEAnet), Amanda Gowland (RIPE NCC), Donal Cunningham (HEAnet), Vesna Manojlovic (RIPE NCC) ----------- Agenda ----------- - going through the actions list - new actions - next meeting: date, topics Amanda was chairing the meeting. Minutes from the meeting on 23rd October were approved. Actions that are either open or done: ACTION: Write RIPE Labs article on diversity efforts at RIPE 75 [Amanda] DONE: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/agowland/gaining-momentum-with-ripe-diversity-efforts ACTION: Investigate remote meet-ups for RIPE 76 [Mirjam and Salam] Still open. Ongoing actions: * ACTION: Reaching out to local tech communities in France [Shane] on 7th December we talks about this, and came up with new actions on this topic: - Amanda: write an article: https://labs.ripe.net/Members/agowland/are-you-french-do-you-love-the-internet-tell-your-story-at-ripe-76 New action: investigate organising French-speaking BoF - Brian will approach PC to ask if this is a good idea - everyone: look for the volunteer for moderating a BoF in French - everyone: coordinate this better with regards to local community meeting dates * Investigate on-site childcare for RIPE 76 [Amanda] Question was added to the feedback survey. There were 65 replies, roughly half said that they are either interested or supporting of the idea; 12 people gave their contacts for the follow-up inquiry. Amanda will contact them in January. * Women-in-tech lunch : working with sponsors, in order to get funding to pay speakers; we will approach potential speakers early in 2018 * Mentoring [Donal] Donal sent some notes from his talk with Aaron. Amanda: currently we do manual pairing; we want to make it an automated process, with an open call for volunteers to be mentors, and offering this to newcomers -- so they can be matched according to their expertise & interests. Denesh mentioned that, in UKNOF experience, both the "general pool of available mentors" and the personalized invitation per meeting are needed. Brian added that this would result in establishing a "new normal", that would benefit both the existing community, and the newcomers. * Metrics gathering [Shane] Numbers from Dubai meeting are processed, and available on GitHb (ADD LINK LATER) . Denesh was positively surprised with the increased gender diversity. Shane is interested in expanding the research in measuring other axes of diversity - national, regional - and might receive some data complied by Amanda, if RIPE NCC can share it. Next meeting will be in February. Happy & inclusive holidays everybody !!
