Hi Øystein Whoever told you that is mistaken. If you type "-v role" in the web query form it shows you the allowed syntax for a ROLE object's "nic-hdl:" attribute: >From 2 to 4 characters optionally followed by up to 6 digits optionally followed by a source specification. The first digit must not be "0". Source specification starts with "-" followed by source name up to 9-character length. So you can set any Nic Handle you wish as long as it follows these rules and it doesn't already exist and has never existed (they cannot be reused after deletion). cheersdenis From: Øystein Gåsdal <dal at alesund.kommune.no> To: "'db-wg at ripe.net'" <db-wg at ripe.net> Sent: Saturday, 30 April 2016, 1:00 Subject: [db-wg] Is it possible to choose your own NIC Handle when creating ROLE objects? <!--#yiv0091358222 _filtered #yiv0091358222 {font-family:"Cambria Math";panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;} _filtered #yiv0091358222 {font-family:Calibri;panose-1:2 15 5 2 2 2 4 3 2 4;}#yiv0091358222 #yiv0091358222 p.yiv0091358222MsoNormal, #yiv0091358222 li.yiv0091358222MsoNormal, #yiv0091358222 div.yiv0091358222MsoNormal {margin:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri", sans-serif;}#yiv0091358222 a:link, #yiv0091358222 span.yiv0091358222MsoHyperlink {color:#0563C1;text-decoration:underline;}#yiv0091358222 a:visited, #yiv0091358222 span.yiv0091358222MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:#954F72;text-decoration:underline;}#yiv0091358222 p.yiv0091358222msonormal0, #yiv0091358222 li.yiv0091358222msonormal0, #yiv0091358222 div.yiv0091358222msonormal0 {margin-right:0cm;margin-left:0cm;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman", serif;}#yiv0091358222 span.yiv0091358222EpostStil18 {font-family:"Calibri", sans-serif;color:windowtext;}#yiv0091358222 span.yiv0091358222ng-binding {}#yiv0091358222 span.yiv0091358222EpostStil20 {font-family:"Calibri", sans-serif;color:#1F497D;}#yiv0091358222 .yiv0091358222MsoChpDefault {font-size:10.0pt;} _filtered #yiv0091358222 {margin:70.85pt 70.85pt 70.85pt 70.85pt;}#yiv0091358222 div.yiv0091358222WordSection1 {}-->Hi I’m trying to create some ROLE objects, but encounter an error:nic-hdl: Syntax error I was told from support that in ROLE and PERSON object, I must use AUTO-1 as NIC handle. This information is not correct for the PERSON object, since I choose my own NIC handle when I created my own PERSON object. So is there a way around this for the ROLE object, too?
