Two main reasons:

It is easier for us to deal with abuse if coming from a person that is associated with a member, formal legal relationship and all that.

Our membership is telling us that they want more tangible "premium" benefits from their membership in addition to the services we provide to the community at large. While we are developing members-only services and members-only features in community services we remain committed to provide service to the community at large of course.
