While the syntax checker is certainly correct, you might want to think
about making it more user friendlier. Messages like 'syntax error' are
not always the most helpful. I am pretty sure that the software could
give some suggestions to the user on what the cause of the error might
be. Your log files can help you understand what the most common errors
are and by what they are caused.
