I have to apologize for this. I didn't realize this when I put the new finger text in production. I have immediately put the finger functionality back, however you will first get a message that advises you to use the AUTO NIC handle assignment feature and information how it works. Does this work for you ? > At the ripe-meeting in Berlin, it was said, that the auto-assign > will be an _addional_ feature. The finger tool is a very inefficient tool and should get a rewrite if we want to keep it. We had to take emergency measures last week to avoid an complete overload on the database machine solely caused by the finger tool. This is the reason we would like that this tool goes eventually. It is possible to make the tool more efficient and acceptable but this will take some extra time that we probably better use for new database development work. But of course the choice is up to the RIPE community. David K. ---
