I endorse the statement. However I believe that the Internet community must show itself to be more pro-active in acknowledging the right of Governments to govern. It would have been useful, for example, to direct readers of this statement to the activities of the Internet Governance Forums, the RIRs, NOGs etc. The Internet is not Uncontrolled. But it is not something that fits the remit of ITU. The Internet makes use of Telecommunication networks, but it is not Telecommunication itself. As some proposed amendments may have a negative impact on the future of the Internet, the Euro-IX Board (Executive Committee) has prepared a Position Statement. The statement lists the points which are considered important to ensure the open, competitive and innovative nature of the Internet in the future.
