Au contraire.
The receiver has to adapt to whatever the sender has switched on in his
mail client. And if the receiver can't view the specific format, he
just can't see the mail.
(Yes, the *idea* is that MIME/multipart will give you the same content
as text and as HTML - but in practice, most of the times, the text part
is non-existant, or empty. Furthermore, you have no way of knowing
whether the content is really identical...)
