This is bullshit.
What should be the difference between
mail.apple.com.
and
apple.com.mail
besides the fact that apple can manage and change the IP address of
mail.apple.com themselves and for the other I need support of the .mail
TLD owner.
NAMES are not the problem in fighting spam.
But hey, it's a new TLD and the idea is to force everyone running a
mailserver to pay for a "subdomain" so this is a license to print
money. Even more with:
*> The use of each domain will cost over US$2000. The price may vary
*> depending on the registrar one uses.
And:
*> 7) Can anyone get a domain?
*> No. Use of the domains is reserved for people and places who do
*> not spam or have a direct role in supporting spammers.
Ah, this should become yet another accrediation service. This will NEVER
work, as they will NEVER be able to control all the terms.
Just think they get 300 complaints about apple.com. What will they do?
Or even worse, they get 100 complaints from e.g. Asia. How will they
manage to check them? Hire a translator? And what will they do if I
swear I use double opt-in? How will they check if I hadn't put 100
address on the list by hand?
They will never solve these problems and because of that each
accrediation system that tries to rate "customers" will never work.
