At least, the RIPE NCC should be held responsible when they are TOLD something is wrong. And even when they are told a record is wrong by the person named in it (which in one recent case was me) they still do not want to put it right. I'm about to ask the UK Information Commissioner to take action via the Dutch Data Protection (equivalent) office to enforce my rights under European law. The bottom line is that the real responsibility is at the start of the food chain ... the LIR that validated and submitted the original data. Which is why I think our first policy proposal should be that the name of the LIR (if any) that validated the original data, with a link to their contact details, must be included in the WHOIS response on every WHOIS lookup (port 43 or website, -b or no -b). -- Richard
