> -> I don't think this is "delicate" at all. Nobody is being *forced* to do that. If you have legacy, you can do transfers outside the system and nobody can oppose to that. However, please read the complete email from Mike (yesterday), I don't think nobody noticed it ... and they key think here is the protection of the "buyer", which is secured if the addresses are converted to non-legacy. If the buyer sees a benefit in coverting legacy space to non-legacy, they can do this today. Gert Doering -- NetMaster Hi Gert, This is true but also irrelevant. The issue here is whether it is within the purview of the community to recognize transfers of legacy space only in exchange for change of status. What is the principled objection to the community trading the new service (of booked transfers) in exchange for the change of legacy status after the blocks are in the hands of new owners? What imposition is it on legacy holders, who are after all selling their blocks through the agency of the RIR? Don't get me wrong, I love RIPE legacy space and think all space should be similarly governed by the world's registries! RIPE treats legacy space as if RIPE were merely the title registry, registering all legal title changes. It's the imposition of restrictive policies that reduce the value of other blocks, or elevate legacy value if you want to view it that way. As I said earlier, if the restrictive policies disappeared the only bonus value of legacy space is fee avoidance. And really RIR fee avoidance is insignificant for virtually all buyers. Regards, Mike
