That erroneous > argument has already been beaten to death. no. you just don't happen to like it. some decades ago, we moved from hosts.txt to a dynamic system to resolve names. part of its design was that it was rooted in a few well-known addresses, the ip addresses of the root servers. the protocol is such that you don't even need to have a completely correct list of those. now you want to fix the addresses of many names we worked hard to make dynamic. no thanks. randy
