Dear TF Members! I may experience connectivity problems at call time, so i'll express opinion in a mail. My action item is posting ideas about mapping document. The main idea was to structure (or have ability to sort) mappings by the time of invention. Reason for this is to see how RIPE community was developed, became more and more complex and became accountable for different subjects. And, now it could also help to verbalize "fundamental ideas behind the RIPE & RIPE NCC system of self-governance" and community principles. Infamous ripe-chair discussion (which led to resignation of Filiz) demonstrated, that old members of RIPE Community have implicit an unwritten principles of functioning of this community, and expect others to share the same principles. Another problem, RIPE community is very diverse, and members from other countries (including me) may have different approach to general community principles than in Western European. Writing down such principles in form understandable and translatable to other languages is a great task for us. Also, i would like to repeat my opinion that "accountability" of RIPE should not have form of any usual legal entity (it's not corporate governace). (suggestions below). I suggest "building trust" as one of possible fundamental ideas. Under this idea "RIPE Chair" will be "Trust Anchor", and his functions will have solid explanation and reasons. WGs (and their chairs) getting their trust delegated by Chair, etc. So, there brings us to form accountability of RIPE similar to States or international organizations like UN, or modern Churches. (jokes about Pope-like selection of RIPE Chair are only partially jokes:) ) Do you know any information on written down accountability (or approaches to formalize) of such organizations? Btw, there is another civil and global community with leader as professional trust anchor - Linux Kernel Developers (With Linus Torvalds as Chair) I would appreciate your opinion.
