Routing Registry Training Course Outline
With this training course you will become familiar with the Internet Routing Registry and the RIPE NCC's routing related services and tools.
After this course you will:
- know how to register your routing information in the RIPE DB
- know how to describe your routing policy with RPSL
- understand the need for filtering
- know how to create prefix filters based on policy information
- know how to create objects in the RIPE DB
Who should attend:
You should attend this training course if you are part of the technical staff of a Local Internet Registry (LIR) in the RIPE NCC service region, e.g. network operator, engineer, etc.
This course is not intended for administrative or management staff (e.g. hostmasters).
The contents are:
- Introduction to the RIPE and RIPE NCC
- The Routing Information Services (RIS)
- Documenting policy
- The RIPE Database
- RPSL introduction
- Specifying routing policies
- RPSL in practice
- RTConfig
- Day to day usage
- RRCC
This course doesn’t cover:
- basics of routing, or any technical routing topics
- basics of RIPE Database operations
- how to receive Internet resources from the RIPE NCC
- how to operate a Local Internet Registry (LIR)
Pre-requisites:
It is assumed that you are familiar with BGP routing and with the basics of the RIPE Database operations (creating/modifying objects).
The methodology:
The RR training course is based on examples and practical exercises and demonstration of tools, so you will be able to use and practice the information you acquire.
We hand out at the course a CD with material and the printed version of the slides. You can also download the material.
The material you need to bring:
This course is based on interactive exercises in a local network set-up.
Please bring your laptops equipped with:
- Working Ethernet card
- 3 meters of Ethernet cable
- Web browser
Please be prepared to share your laptop (or at least allow another attendee to "look over your shoulder") if necessary.

We accept no more than two people from the same LIR
per training course. If more then two people apply,
they will be placed on the waiting list and only admitted on the course
in case of possible free places.
The costs of this course are covered by the LIR's membership fee.
The course includes lunch and training materials. Travel expenses and accommodation during the training course are not included.

All Routing Registry Training Courses are conducted in English.
We ask everyone to be present at 09:00 for coffee. The course starts at 09:30 and finishes at 17:00.
