The RDNS Project
There were two parts to the project:
- The introduction of a new authorisation mechanism for domain objects
- A clean up of inconsistencies between data in domain objects as stored in the whois database and reverse delegation information in the DNS
Proposals
- Discussion on the original proposal took place in the RIPE NCC Services Working Group.
- The proposal for authorisation based on the "mnt-domains:" attribute was posted on the DNS Working Group mailing list.
- The possible consequences of introducing the "mnt-domains:" based authorisation was also posted on the DNS Working Group mailing list.
- The proposal on how to proceed with the clean up was posted to the Database Working Group mailing list.
Clean-up
The RIPE NCC undertook a consistency clean-up between 7 January and 1 March 2004. This was necessary to use the whois database as an authoritative source for the generation of zone data.
