Caution
Dubai visitors must be aware that certain medicines are prohibited in
the United Arabic Emirates. If you are undergoing medical treatment in your country, be sure to carry with you a doctor's prescription of the medication which you are bringing.
Possession of certain prescribed medicines (especially those containing codeine, a common ingredient for pain relief and cold and flu medication) will land you in jail.
Be aware that there are no warnings posted at airports. Travel agencies may not inform you of such restrictions.
Information does change all the time, so if in doubt, we recommend that you contact the Ministry of Health before you travel.
Money Matters
Currency
The national currency in the United Arabic Emirates is the Dirham (AED).
The city has an extensive network of cash machines.
There are currency exchange and banking facilities at the airport (many are open 24 hours a day). However, changing your money
at these outlets or at hotels tends to be more expensive. More
competitive rates can be obtained from financial establishments in the city centre.
