Take Part Remotely
To encourage remote participation at this meeting, all sessions that take place in the main room are video webcast. Sessions that take place in the side rooms are broadcast in audio only.
- Archives of sessions are made available on our site after the meeting.
Additionally, you can join the discussions by using instant messaging software. Both IRC and Jabber are supported. During each session, RIPE NCC staff monitor the remote feedback channels and relay any questions or comments to the presenter or session chair.
A real time stenography service is available for all plenary and RIPE Working Group sessions.
- Archives of sessions are made available on our site after the meeting.
Netiquette for Remote Participation
- State your name and organisation/affiliation and then type your question or comment as clearly and concisely as possible.
- The channel monitor will read out all comments and questions when the presenter has called for questions.
- All discussions are then archived and made available to the public on this website.
Please note: There is a variable time delay between actual events at the meeting venue and the webcast. Although the channel monitor will inform the chat room that the presenter has asked for questions, you should ask your question as soon as you can.
Participate Using IRC
- To connect to the RIPE Meeting IRC network, configure your software to use irc.ripe.net
- You may choose any nickname, as long as it does not conflict with an existing or reserved nickname
- During each meeting, we publish a list of channel names, to join a specific channel, the usual command is '/join #channel-name'.
Participate Using Jabber
- There is one server for all users: jabber.ripe.net
- You will need to register your preferred handle in the form 'yourname@jabber.ripe.net'
- To join a specific room, you will need to 'Join Group Chat' with:
- Group/Room: room name (During each meeting, we publish a list of room names)
- Server: conference.ripe.net
IMPORTANT: The RIPE Jabber server is not SSL-enabled. If you are using SSL for your current Jabber account, you may not be able to connect to the group chat rooms. Either disable SSL in your client (not recommended due to password exposure issues), or create an account as mentioned above.
